MONTGOMERY - The 2010 Alabama governor's race is wide open, and a lineup of the state's top politicians is considering entering the field.

Alabama will have its first open gubernatorial seat in more than two decades because Gov. Bob Riley cannot run for re-election, and that sets up a political scramble to be the next man or woman to occupy the Governor's Mansion.

In my recent debate in Birmingham with Congressman Artur Davis, a student asked me if I plan to run for office in 2010. Even though it is awfully early and our focus now needs to be on the November elections, that's an
interesting question and one that requires careful deliberation.

Public service is an honor and a privilege and I am encouraged that my name has been among those considered qualified for any of the three top constitutional offices in Alabama - Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General.
