Luther Appointed to Advisory Board

MOBILE COUNTY, ALABAMA…Alabama attorney Luther Strange has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary E. Peters.

Located in Kings Point, New York, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s mission is “[t]o educate and graduate officers and leaders of honor and integrity who are dedicated to serving the economic and defense interests of the United States in our Armed Forces and Merchant Marine, and who contribute to an intermodal transportation system that effectively ties America together.”

The Advisory Board reviews the instructional quality and management of the Academy, and makes recommendations on issues such as plans and programs, budgets, curriculum, faculty and student standards, and graduation requirements. By law, the Advisory Board is composed of not more than seven persons of distinction in education and other fields relating to the Academy who are appointed by the Secretary for terms not to exceed three years.

Strange worked as a Merchant Marine Ordinary Seaman in the North Sea prior to attending law school. He has been selected by his peers for inclusion in the Best Lawyer’s in America, named Best of the Bar by the Birmingham Business Journal and recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in Alabama by Birmingham Magazine. His firm has been named one of the Top Ten Law Firms That Understand Economic Development by Southern Business & Development magazine.

Strange said, “Alabama is fortunate to have a number of Academy graduates working as leaders in our important maritime industry and I’m glad to be of service”.
