BIRMINGHAM, Ala– Luther Strange has officially qualified with the Alabama Republican Party as a candidate for the 2010 Attorney General’s race and the Honorable Bill Cabaniss will serve as Chair of the campaign.

Strange filed his qualifying papers with the state GOP Wednesday in Birmingham. He faces incumbent Attorney General Troy King in the June 1 primary.

“Our campaign has received overwhelming support from across Alabama, by voters who want to restore honesty, integrity and trust to the office of Attorney General,” Strange said. “As we take our message to the people of our state, I’m truly honored to have the experience and leadership of Bill Cabaniss on my team.”

Cabaniss, a former US Ambassador to the Czech Republic and former Alabama lawmaker, will serve as Campaign Chairman.

“This attorney general’s election is one of the most important I’ve seen in my lifetime. Alabama faces a constitutional crisis over the gambling issue, and we’re determined to defend our rights against the unfair federal healthcare mandate,” Cabaniss said. “Luther Strange brings the legal experience, the knowledge of government and the commitment to high standards that Alabama needs at such a pivotal time.”
