BIRMINGHAM– Republican nominee for Attorney General, Luther Strange issued the following statement regarding the Alabama run-off election results:

“I want to congratulate all of the winners in tonight’s run-off elections. I look forward to running in November with all the GOP nominees in an election that will be a referendum on our state and nation’s future.

“The general election for Attorney General begins tonight. We plan a spirited race based upon the critical choices that confront Alabama and our nation. It is time for the state to clean up the corruption in Montgomery ourselves and not leave the task to federal prosecutors. The same interests that have everything to lose in cleaning up the cesspool of corruption in Montgomery will invest heavily in this race and we plan to make it known whose interests are opposed to those of the will of the people to bring an end to the cycle of corruption.

“Furthermore, as the chief law enforcement officer in the State, it is incumbent upon the Attorney General to litigate and fight for the rights of our sovereign state as guaranteed in the Constitution. There is too much at stake for our children to elect an Attorney General that sympathizes with the big government, socialized medicine, liberal and anti-gun judge agenda of the Obama administration.

“The job of Attorney General is to keep our families and communities safe, to protect our children at school and at home, to ensure a fair legal environment for businesses to create jobs, to stop public corruption at every level of government and defend the sovereignty of our state. That will be my agenda as Attorney General.

“Finally and unequivocally, I intend to pursue all guilty parties liable for the oil spill damage and economic hardship visited on Alabama and secure the maximum amount of compensation due the taxpayers of the state and especially the victims on the Coast most directly impacted by this senseless tragedy.

“Again, I congratulate all winners tonight and look forward to a spirited debate on the future of our state and country in the Fall.”

MOBILE– Republican nominee for Attorney General Luther Strange opened a Gulf Coast campaign headquarters today in Mobile. Local law enforcement officials and supporters were on hand to see the facility and hear from Mr. Strange about his campaign’s focus on coastal Alabama.

“We’re opening our Gulf Coast Headquarters because this is one of the most important areas of the state, and it’s facing a crisis,” Strange said. “I want to have staff members here on the ground and spend as much time as possible here so I can be fully informed of the issues related to this recovery. As attorney general, the situation in the Gulf of Mexico will consume my time until those responsible are held accountable.”

As voters decide run-off elections today, Strange renewed his promise of cooperation with other elected leaders in dealing with Gulf recovery and the state’s business climate.

“No matter what happens today in the Governor’s race I will work close with him,” Strange said. “Prosecuting Public corruption will be a top priority. I will keep our people safe, our homes safe and the state of Alabama a safe place for business. That means fairly enforcing the laws and protecting the people who are hurt by irresponsible business practices.”

Staff members at the campaign’s Gulf Coast Headquarters will coordinate regional support efforts, handle local fundraising and help monitor issues related to Gulf recovery.

“Finally, GREAT news in the race for attorney general.

Republican incumbent Troy King has been such a disappointment that his affable and intelligent opponent, Luther Strange, earned the support of both U.S. Senators, Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions, along with the tacit support of just about every other major Republican office-holder. Strange absolutely routed King in the primary, and will be favored in the general election. This is good news. Strange also is a personal friend of the estimable Fred Barnes, our famous conservative comrade-in-arms at the Weekly Standard. He could be real rising star for conservatives.”

Melissa and I and all of my campaign team have greatly appreciated your support throughout this campaign. I’m proud that you have selected me to be Alabama’s Republican nominee for the Office of Attorney General.

The people of Alabama have sent a strong message tonight. Voters from every corner of our state have made it clear they want to restore honesty, integrity and trust to the Office of Attorney General. They have spoken loudly that they want an attorney general who fights public corruption, stands against special interests and who will lead the fight to clean up the mess in Montgomery.

I stand ready to defend our rights and I’ll join with other Attorneys General across the country in the litigation over health care reform. Standing up to Washington’s growing government calls for conservative values and strong leadership. As we move towards November, the people of Alabama deserve to know whether my Democratic opponent is willing to stand up against government takeover of the health care system or duck out of the legal challenge and let liberal Washington Democrats dictate the health care of our families.

Republicans across Alabama know where I stand on the issue of cleaning up corruption and restoring the Office of Attorney General to the level of respect it projected under the leadership of Senator Jeff Sessions and Judge Bill Pryor.

It is the job of Attorney General to be a tough crime fighter and I’ll prosecute those who break our laws no matter who they are. I’m dedicated to enforcing the rule of law, regardless of personal views. I believe in a team-work approach to law enforcement and that’s why I am committed to working with District Attorneys and law enforcement officials across Alabama, giving them the support and cooperation they need to keep our communities safe and fight harmful special interests.

These are important — yet simple duties of the Attorney General. I’ll carry out these duties professionally and ethically, with strict interpretation of the law. The people of Alabama deserve no less.

I’m grateful to everyone who voted today, and I thank you for carrying out your civic duty. No matter whom you voted for in this primary – we are coming together for November. We must work together to continue Governor Riley’s work of cleaning up public corruption and finally making state government transparent and trustworthy. By sharing our conservative values we can do more than just talk about protecting children from predators — we can take action to put real programs in place that will help our families and keep our children safe. And by coming together as Republicans, we will tell liberal Washington Democrats to keep their hands out of our pockets and away from our personal freedoms.

I hope that you will join my campaign — you can visit my website at www.LutherStrange.com for more information. Together we can change Montgomery!

BIRMINGHAM, Ala– Troy King has finally admitted to receiving campaign contributions from gambling interests according to remarks by a King campaign spokesman quoted in today’s Mobile Register. The admission comes after King’s February pledge not to accept direct or indirect contributions from gambling interests.

“At first Troy King said he wasn’t taking gambling money, then he tried to deny it,” said attorney general candidate Luther Strange. “Troy King is selling the office to the highest bidder. The King campaign is desperate enough now to admit they are propped up by gambling interests and they want the people of Alabama to believe all other candidates are too. I’m proud to be the only candidate in this race to keep my promise and refuse contributions from gambling interests.”

The admission of King’s gambling connections came from his campaign spokesman Jon Gray who said, “Every political candidate for office can be tied to gambling money within six degrees of separation, if they took one contribution from any PAC (political action committee),” as quoted by the Mobile Register, May 30, 2010.

Luther Strange has repeatedly shown journalists public records proving how King’s mostly PAC-funded campaign raked in hundreds of thousands of dollars traceable to casino owners, their lobbyists, people involved with public corruption scandals, even a slot machine manufacturer who passed money to King using PAC transfers. Until today, King and his spokesman argued the PAC money was not traceable–now they admit it is.
