College Student Leaders Endorse Luther Strange

Student Government Association presidents at the University of Alabama, Auburn University and Samford University have endorsed Luther Strange in the 2010 race for Alabama Attorney General. The student leaders announced their support in YouTube videos which can be seen through the campaign’s website, www.LutherStrange.com.

In their videos, Auburn SGA President Jacob Watkins of Fairhope discussed personal values related to the attorney general’s race while Alabama SGA President Steven A. Oliver of Tennessee talked about the connection between education and government. Samford SGA President Bee Frederick of Montgomery remarked about Strange’s efforts to include young voters in the political process.

“I know how Luther’s commitment to high ethical standards can make a difference in our state government, a difference that can reach right here to the Auburn plains,” Watkins said. “Luther is dedicated to helping Alabama’s next generation of leaders and workers reach their greatest achievements.”

“Luther has spent time on our campus meeting students, participating in events and getting to know the Samford community,” Frederick said. “I’ve seen how committed he is to honest and ethical government.”

“The work of elected leaders has an effect on our quality education,” Oliver said. “It influences how much tuition we pay, it decides how our school is prepared for the future.”

“Young voters are the future of our state. I’m grateful for the support of these SGA presidents and I hope more college leaders will reach out to our campaign and stand with us, ” Strange said. “I have visited campuses across Alabama, talking with students who are very aware of how state government effects their lives. They see many of the problems we face right now and they’re engaged in correcting those problems.”

As part of his campaign, Strange is spending time on college campuses, where he has spoken to law students, political student organizations and met with student leaders. Endorsements from the SGA presidents resulted from visits to each campus.
