“Finally, GREAT news in the race for attorney general.

Republican incumbent Troy King has been such a disappointment that his affable and intelligent opponent, Luther Strange, earned the support of both U.S. Senators, Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions, along with the tacit support of just about every other major Republican office-holder. Strange absolutely routed King in the primary, and will be favored in the general election. This is good news. Strange also is a personal friend of the estimable Fred Barnes, our famous conservative comrade-in-arms at the Weekly Standard. He could be real rising star for conservatives.”

Melissa and I and all of my campaign team have greatly appreciated your support throughout this campaign. I’m proud that you have selected me to be Alabama’s Republican nominee for the Office of Attorney General.

The people of Alabama have sent a strong message tonight. Voters from every corner of our state have made it clear they want to restore honesty, integrity and trust to the Office of Attorney General. They have spoken loudly that they want an attorney general who fights public corruption, stands against special interests and who will lead the fight to clean up the mess in Montgomery.

I stand ready to defend our rights and I’ll join with other Attorneys General across the country in the litigation over health care reform. Standing up to Washington’s growing government calls for conservative values and strong leadership. As we move towards November, the people of Alabama deserve to know whether my Democratic opponent is willing to stand up against government takeover of the health care system or duck out of the legal challenge and let liberal Washington Democrats dictate the health care of our families.

Republicans across Alabama know where I stand on the issue of cleaning up corruption and restoring the Office of Attorney General to the level of respect it projected under the leadership of Senator Jeff Sessions and Judge Bill Pryor.

It is the job of Attorney General to be a tough crime fighter and I’ll prosecute those who break our laws no matter who they are. I’m dedicated to enforcing the rule of law, regardless of personal views. I believe in a team-work approach to law enforcement and that’s why I am committed to working with District Attorneys and law enforcement officials across Alabama, giving them the support and cooperation they need to keep our communities safe and fight harmful special interests.

These are important — yet simple duties of the Attorney General. I’ll carry out these duties professionally and ethically, with strict interpretation of the law. The people of Alabama deserve no less.

I’m grateful to everyone who voted today, and I thank you for carrying out your civic duty. No matter whom you voted for in this primary – we are coming together for November. We must work together to continue Governor Riley’s work of cleaning up public corruption and finally making state government transparent and trustworthy. By sharing our conservative values we can do more than just talk about protecting children from predators — we can take action to put real programs in place that will help our families and keep our children safe. And by coming together as Republicans, we will tell liberal Washington Democrats to keep their hands out of our pockets and away from our personal freedoms.

I hope that you will join my campaign — you can visit my website at www.LutherStrange.com for more information. Together we can change Montgomery!

Campaign 2010: Gov. Bob Riley praises attorney general candidate Luther Strange in campaign flyer.

Republican Gov. Bob Riley is quoted in a campaign flyer as praising Birmingham attorney Luther Strange, saying he thinks Strange would make a great attorney general.

Strange is running in Tuesday’s Republican primary against incumbent Troy King. Riley appointed King as attorney general in March 2004 to fill a vacancy. King then won a four-year term in 2006.

”The job of the attorney general is to enforce the rule of law. I believe that Luther Strange will carry out that duty with conviction and would be a great attorney general for Alabama,” Riley is quoted as saying in a campaign flyer the Strange campaign mailed earlier this week to 100,000 likely Republican voters.

The Supreme Court of Alabama ruled unanimously against incumbent Attorney General Troy King today, tossing out yet another of his foot-dragging tactics in the battle over enforcing Alabama’s gambling laws that has dragged on far too long under Mr. King’s tenure.

Luther Strange issued the following statement in response to today’s ruling by the Supreme Court of Alabama:

“This ruling from the Supreme Court of Alabama today only gives us more evidence that Troy King has compromised the office of attorney general. It raises again the issue of Troy King failing to enforce the law because of his close ties to the gambling bosses.

Troy King should repay the taxpayers of this state for the hundreds of thousands of dollars he wasted doing the bidding of the corrupt casino owners and their lobbyists. It was Troy King who created this law enforcement crisis and it is Troy King who continues to embarrass our state as Attorney General.

Never in the state’s history has a Governor had to carry out the Attorney General’s job of enforcing the law. There will be no need for a governor’s task force to enforce the law when I am Attorney General. I will execute my sworn duty to enforce the law and put an end to this nonsense.”

BIRMINGHAM, Ala– As a phantom political group makes plans to flood Alabama airwaves with more than one million dollars of television advertising, Republican candidate for attorney general, Luther Strange is calling on candidates and voters to take a public stand against this outside special interest group’s influence on state elections.

“When wealthy special interests hide behind stealth groups to sway our elections, they are hurting honest Alabama voters and good candidates,” Strange said. “Alabama needs transparency in state elections. The person or group actually funding these ads should make clear who they are and what their agenda really is.”

“Any candidate that would benefit from one of these groups should disavow the ads and demand they be pulled from the airwaves. I pledge to do so and challenge every other statewide candidate in both parties to join me.”

A new political organization founded only days ago using the name New Sons of Liberty is currently placing more than one million dollars in television advertising which will reach every corner of Alabama. The subject of their ad campaign remains a public mystery, but their commercials are slated to begin May 21 and run up to the June 1 primary. The group was only incorporated two weeks ago and no one has come forward to put an actual face or even a real location behind the organization.

“We have already seen the lies and deception spread when candidates and special interests team up,” Strange said. “Troy King and his gambling buddies were first to try for cheap political points by politicizing the Gulf oil spill and airing their lies on television. Now it looks like another special interest will try to buy off another candidate.”

Strange has set up a website where he’s asking candidates and voters to join in his pledge not to benefit from manipulative special interests and to keep them out of Alabama elections. “As attorney general, I’ll fight to force stealth money and fake interests groups out of the closet so voters can make informed decisions about not just the message, but the messenger.” Strange added. “My fight starts right now with this pledge.”

To join the fight for transparent elections and to say no to outside special interest groups, visit and sign the petition online at: http://www.lutherstrange.com/clean-up-alabama, where you can learn more about Big Luther’s fight for honesty and integrity in state government.
