Luther Appointed to Advisory Board

MOBILE COUNTY, ALABAMA…Alabama attorney Luther Strange has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Mary E. Peters.

Located in Kings Point, New York, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy’s mission is “[t]o educate and graduate officers and leaders of honor and integrity who are dedicated to serving the economic and defense interests of the United States in our Armed Forces and Merchant Marine, and who contribute to an intermodal transportation system that effectively ties America together.”

Luther Tours Port of Mobile

Birmingham lawyer Luther Strange got a tour of the Port of Mobile last week, courtesy of a pair of Mobile business executives.

Strange, who lost a close race for Alabama lieutenant governor to Jim Folsom Jr. in 2006, said he wanted a first-hand look at Mobile's waterfront after recently gaining an appointment to the advisory board of the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

Luther Speaks With Youth on Political Participation

While older citizens may believe that with election day approaching and the economy in a pitfall and teenagers are still worried about getting into college and planning homecoming, they are correct.

However, most Mountain Brook High School students are dually preoccupied between the two levels of issues.

As typical for election years, the school recently arranged for politicians to address students ages 15 to 18 in an assembly, reviewing the role of politics in life at any stage and responding to questions concerning relevant issues for the candidates of the upcoming presidential election.

Luther Talks About 2010 Elections

Friends,

In my recent debate in Birmingham with Congressman Artur Davis, a student asked me if I plan to run for office in 2010. Even though it is awfully early and our focus now needs to be on the November elections, that's an
interesting question and one that requires careful deliberation.

Public service is an honor and a privilege and I am encouraged that my name has been among those considered qualified for any of the three top constitutional offices in Alabama - Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General.

Luther works to develop economic development corridor in the Wiregrass

Toll road to coast eyed

Developers and Wiregrass economic development groups want to build the state's first toll road that would connect central Alabama to the Florida Panhandle.

Transportation officials and Gov. Bob Riley have had several meetings with the developers proposing a public-private road that could ultimately run from Montgomery to Panama City.

The poll was commissioned by Congressman Davis and the results were reported by the Tuscaloosa News.
