Birmingham, Ala.  -  Senator Luther Strange released the following statement Friday accepting the endorsement from National Right to Life, the nation's oldest and largest pro-life organization.

“I have long said that a society cannot claim to be free and fair unless it guarantees the rights of the defenseless among us,” said Senator Strange. “If we fail to stand for those who cannot stand for themselves, then the words of our founding documents and the truths we each hold in our hearts mean nothing. I am proud to have the endorsement of a prodigious origination like National Right to Life as we together fight to restore legal protections for the most defenseless members of our society.”

In the National Right to Life’s endorsement letter to Senator Luther Strange, which is attached, the organization says that “(a)ll Alabama voters who are concerned with the right to life and with the protection of the most vulnerable members of the human family should vote to elect you to the U.S. Senate so that you can continue your work to advance vital pro-life public policies.”

Senator Strange introduced the Sanctity of Human Life Act, the strongest pro-life legislation in the history of the Senate, which declares that life begins at fertilization and extends 14th amendment protections to the unborn. A co-chair of the Senate Values Action Team in the Senate, Strange is also a cosponsor of the Conscience Protection Act, the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, and the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act. In addition, he fought to include an amendment in the recent Obamacare replacement bill which would have applied Hyde Amendment restrictions to government subsidies in the Obamacare exchanges, restricting the use of tax dollars to pay for elective abortions.

Senator Strange has also received the endorsements of the NRA-ILA, the Alabama Farmer's Federation, the Alabama Credit Union Association, the Alabama Rural Electric Association, and the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders.
